Senegal has just reached a historic milestone in its energy transition. Senelec, the national electricity company, has issued a call for bids for two large solar power plants totaling 500 MW<\/strong> in photovoltaic capacity. This initiative makes Senegal a model for all of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What exactly does this Senegalese project entail?<\/strong> Senelec will build the two projects in different regions of the country: 200 MW in Lingu\u00e8re and 300 MW in Kolda. Each power plant will be equipped with lithium-ion battery storage systems with a capacity of 100 MW \/ 400 MWh. Thus, The power plants will redistribute<\/strong> energy generated during the day, in the evening, or during periods of peak demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selected developers will 24 months<\/strong> to complete construction. This project is part of Senegal\u2019s National Energy Pact. It aims to 40% of renewable electricity by 2030<\/strong> and universal access to electricity by 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
