Senegal: 500 MW of Solar Power and Storage — Can Gabon Follow Suit?

Senegal has just reached a historic milestone in its energy transition. Senelec, the national electricity company, has issued a call for bids for two large solar power plants totaling 500 MW in photovoltaic capacity. This initiative makes Senegal a model for all of Africa.
What exactly does this Senegalese project entail? Senelec will build the two projects in different regions of the country: 200 MW in Linguère and 300 MW in Kolda. Each power plant will be equipped with lithium-ion battery storage systems with a capacity of 100 MW / 400 MWh. Thus, The power plants will redistribute energy generated during the day, in the evening, or during periods of peak demand.
The selected developers will 24 months to complete construction. This project is part of Senegal’s National Energy Pact. It aims to 40% of renewable electricity by 2030 and universal access to electricity by 2029.
Why Battery Storage Is a Game-Changer
The greatest strength of this project is the integration of batteries. Solar power alone has a limitation: when the sun sets, power generation stops. With high-capacity batteries, however, energy is stored and then continuously redistributed. The grid thus becomes stable, reliable, and independent.
This principle, WOW2000 has been implementing it for years in both residential and commercial settings in Gabon. Our solar systems with lithium batteries offer this same energy independence—at home, in your store, or at your business.
And what about Gabon in all this?
What Senegal is doing on a large scale, every Gabonese citizen can do at home starting today. WOW2000 supports this transition with comprehensive solar solutions, a professional local team, and a 3- to 8-year warranty.
The African solar revolution is underway. In Gabon, it is just beginning at the port of Owendo, a hub for sailors. Contact us via WhatsApp on our website.
