Have prices really gone up?

Yes. According to PV Magazine, prices for photovoltaic modules rose for the fourth consecutive month in April 2026, driven by strong demand for energy independence despite falling costs for upstream materials such as polysilicon. Production cuts in China and tighter supply conditions are limiting availability, exacerbating price increases across all technologies.

By how much have prices gone up? Between March and April 2026, prices rose by an average of 5.5%, with all-black modules posting the largest increases.

Why are prices rising now?

Several factors account for this rise in prices.

The elimination of export subsidies in China. Since April 2026, China has eliminated its export VAT credits for solar panels. Chinese manufacturers no longer benefit from this subsidy, which automatically affects global prices.

Strong global demand. The whole world wants solar power. The United States, Europe, Africa—demand is skyrocketing everywhere. When demand exceeds supply, prices rise. That’s the law of the market.

Production cuts in China. Some Chinese manufacturers have cut back on production in an effort to stabilize prices after years of very low profit margins. Fewer panels on the market means higher prices.
